Hooray for World Indigenous Day!
On Sunday, August 24, 2025, at 4:00 pm, Ferver is celebrating World Indigenous Day.
World Indigenous Day was established by the United Nations in 1994 to honor the community of Indigenous tribes and villages. This is no small community, globally, they represent an estimated 500 million, with various dialects, customs, and traditions. Most are some of the poorest among us.
Within the North American region, we have seen the misuse and abuse of our own, the Native American community. Many were persecuted and forced to forsake their religious heritage by threat of death. Many did become Christians, yet they learned to recover their ancestral roots. With that said, I recognize them as an engrafted branch as well. They are our fathers, mothers, brothers, and sisters.
This month we spend time trying to understand this community, and how we can support them in overcoming the trials that lie before them. Due to historical circumstances, this community has a high rate of suicide, depression and anxiety. Tuning into their voice and learning their struggles, is a demonstration of God’s Love. Finally, I would like to leave this passage of scripture with you. Jesus said in Matthew 25:40 the following words:
“The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.” (NIV)
Please join us as we stretch ourselves and learn to listen to the global voice of World Indigenous Day. We are overcomers, and we are here to help others overcome as well. We hope to see you soon.
